When I was in scouting (2nd Portishead), 10 yrs ago, I don't think we had a "Greenfield Camping Permit", could I ask what that is exactly ?

For those thinking of getting involved...

The permit scheme is divided up according to what types of nights away you intend to do, your level of experience and knowledge.

Indoor - indoor nights out only
Campsite - Covers above plus camp sites with facilities (toilets etc)
Lightweight Expedition - covers overnight stops on hikes etc only
Greenfield - covers them all so I can take them on anything from a stay in a bunk house to a lightweight bivvy on Exmoor.

The assessor was first class and knew his stuff, did his job and the level of permit recommended. To top it off, we had the District Commissioner (top man) staying with us on the camp who popped down shortly after and asked if I would consider becoming a Nights Away Advisor myself That means I would be out there helping folks out on getting their permits and doing the assessing.

Got to do some serious thinking now...

Have fun mate. If you get the the same chap for your training that I had for my assessment then you're on a winner (he was from Exeter). I ended up having the County Assessor checking me out due to issues with local teams. But thats something that I might be able to start sorting myself if I take on the Nights Away Advisor role I have been offered.

Yesterday i made fire by friction using a piece of willow for the board and a hazle peg for the drill but this morning i tried it and YES it worked again so i know yesterday was not a complete fluke.

But I stop short of taking "herself" shopping ......making up for it by cooking an unsuspected nice dinner and washing up!
