    Hedgerow medicine

In the olden days , I think most folk had a rather vast knowledge of the medicinal value of their native flora.
Not just medicine men, shamans, druids or witch doctors.

It was just another vital skill that you'd pick up when growing up.

This seems to have been vastly neglected and/or forgotten, for various reasons that may or may not fit on this thread...
Modern medicine certainly played a part in this, but regardless of that , I think it is one of the essential skills in the Bushcraft realm and very interesting (if not essential...) in what I perceive as
    knowing your environment.

With Autumn around the corner and the colder nights drawing in , I'm hoping that some folk here will find this useful.

Hedgerow medicine is a interesting subject and so vast , that for a beginner can be daunting to know where to start...

Here's some information on a few plants that have medicinal value and that most of us will pass sooner or later on our leisurely walks.

Admittedly, Black Seed , Moringa and Mullein are not so common in the UK , but this is a cosmopolitan forum with members from all over the world, so I thought I'd include them .

    👍

It is really important to remember that herbs are powerful medicine, that you can poison yourself if you are not careful. If you are not medically trained you should not be trying to diagnose other peoples illnesses let alone your self. Self medication by untrained people should only be for minor ailments if minor ailments worsen or persist contact a Doctor.

First aiders should be remain aware of the fact that unless trained to do so they are not allowed to prescribe any medications even antiseptic creams. The same applies to herbs
