    I will admit I'm a Kayacat backer

I have taken the gamble and backed the Kayacat project via Kickstarter. http://kayacat.com/ Being based on the Solent this looks like a nearly ideal craft for me, transportable on the scooter and able to be used as a kayak or dinghy. Should it get funded I plan to rig it out for crab/lobster potting and line fishing.

Interestingly, if I'm reading the Southern Inshore fisheries and Conservation Authority rules correctly than had I gone for the rowing version I could have legally sold my catch without registering the boat. I'm guessing there is some historic rights associated with open deck rowing boats.

    That's pretty cool.

And so is the idea of Lobster pots in the Solent ?
I didn't even realise you had lobster there...
I had some great crab and some razor clams once but that was bought at the market 🐚 🐙
That's fantastic , even if you can't sell the bounty at least you will have " fit for King " food for free...

How does that work for license ?
Is it expensive, difficult to get?

I met plenty of yachts people (clients) when I lived in Lymington but busy work schedule kept me from interacting with local fishermen
    ...
Interesting foraging down your way too.
Plenty of easy pickings if you know where to look.
    Bivalves and crustacean heaven
    ...

    Good shout and good luck!
Hope it gets all the funding necessary to go into production.
    👍

There are definitely lobsters down there as I have a mate who regularly picks them up whilst diving. In the past I have potted spider crabs from the Haslar Millennium Pier but it had a lot of problems snagging on the pier.

I haven't looked into get a boat registered but there is some strange wording to the Southern IFCA regulations. (http://www.southern-ifca.gov.uk/byelaws) In particular '
Vessels Used in Fishing for Sale

No person shall use or permit the use of any vessel for fishing for or taking sea fish for the purpose of sale other than an open or undecked boat navigated by oars only unless he has, within the previous 24 months, registered or re-registered (as the case may be) this vessel with the Committee and has obtained a certificate to that effect signed by the Chief Fishery Officer of the Committee'

Southern IFCA looks to issue these for free on completion of the right forms but there are possibly a whole host of national rules and regulations. As I don't really want to go commercial I haven't looked into it. I was just trying to see if there were any pot or species take limits for unregistered boats.

After a typical Kickstarter last day backing surge the campaign ended up 106.6% funded. So I'm now a little poorer but currently very happy.

The post campaign schedule for the Kayacat was incredibly short so if it keeps to time then I should get it in around a month.

There seem to be a lot of "inflatable" Catamarans on the www which surprised me - have a look on Google
I had a go on a "Catapult" years ago, it was good but not as good as the International Tornado that I was using at the time

There was another "inflateable" Cat that I had a go and it was terrible: I think that it was because the hulls were too fat and too short, sorry but I can't remember what it was

After far too many delays, but nothing out of the ordinary for Kickstarter, my Kayacat is finally in transit with the courier.

My Kayacat finally arrived today and, somewhat embarrassingly, I actually had to download the assembly video to work out how this one goes together. The weather is atrocious here tonight but hopefully there will be some better weather either later in the week or at the weekend and I will get it reassembled and out on the water for a test run.
