I know I am free some time in October, I will be more than happy to come and show you how to do it all in person. If you let me know when you have booked my flight and booked my accommodation I will be more than happy to come and teach you.
Always happy to help

Silva compasses are fairly priced and carry simple but effective instructions...
Here is the YouTube version of it:

As Fishyfolk said earlier, map + compass are best combined , both useful but better together.
Just don't go wondering off into the jungle without telling anyone where , when and estimated time of arrival.
Prepare , practice and then prepare and practice some more...
Start small and local before heading out!
Take care

+1 for Junglecrafty (his YT name). I haven't seen anyone as thorough as him for jungle skills and knowledge. I really enjoy his vids...he's very down-to-Earth, no macho-guru.

I while back I wrote up Map and Compass techniques for a hunting forum I belong to.
These are techniques that work in the bush and mountains of NZ, you might need to see which of them are applicable to your situation. Here in NZ for example by in large we have distinctive mountain tops etc that provide ample opportunities to get fairly accurate bearings to. This can be more problematic in areas of thick bush [or jungle] with more indistinct rolling country.
Hopefully you will find something of use ... http://www.fishnhunt.co.nz/forum/YaB...num=1439151176
