I had a look again at this image & passed it onto a friend of mine from the Countryside Trust (forestry), Ash trees have a opposite branch pattern, meaning that branches are directly across from each other, viewing an enlargement of the top image (pan bottom left) 'guessing' from the bark, it very much looks like Ash common to South Wales. On mature trees the bark has a distinct diamond shaped pattern on saplings the bark is more smooth. Ok the images provided aren't 100% that an accurate or positive I.D can be given, anyway thanks Gerry for sharing your find & hopefully you shall keep us posted with your research & finds. Looking forward to see how you fair with the fire bow drill experimentation.
