    Car frustration

We've been in the cold part of winter for 2-3 weeks now. That is we've had temps down to -18*C, her on the island, but a lot colder in the inerrior. Right now it is a cosy -7*C.
Anyway, did you know that gas pedals on cars are made of plastic?
I did not either...until this morning when mine snapped right off at the hinge...some ice must have gotten under it and when I put my foot down, it snapped right off...

Luckilly it's a very easy to replace, as it is electric, so just unscrew a bolt, take it off and put the new in. But thats another 90£ I could use on something else. The parts delaersd want 20£ just to ship the thing...robbery!

Thats expensive - but typical of the auto industry.

Why is it stuff goes wrong on cars just when you least need it?

That's the "trade off" for the convenience of having a car - it's what they do. Annoyingly!

Look on the bright side Rune, at least you could replace the pedal yourself. These days it's usually a Dealership job if the simplest thing goes wrong. Don't even think about engine repairs/adjustments....

The day ended pretty well. During christmass I found some old 3" HDD disks in the attic marked "Runes army". And today I found a 3" HHD drive that worked.
I turned out to be pictures from my deployment to the Balkans with the army in 2000. I do not have a single picture from those days with me in it, but there I found them + some with me and the lads....Memories :-)

I can't remeber me looking that fit, but aparantly I was in tad better shape 15 years ago :-)

Wow, great photos, nothing like cruising down down memory lane

As to the car issues, I don't know how repairs are done in Europe, but in the States, you have the option of getting repairs done from the car dealer, or you can go to independent garages. Most dealers will try to rope you into "staying loyal" to them, and that getting something fixed at another place not "approved" by them might make your vehicle fail, or whatever nonsense the can think of. The truth is that the folks at independent garages are just as knowledgeable if not more so than the dealer's repairmen - what's more, the independent folks often charge MUCH less than the dealers do. It does help if you can find an independent garage that specialises in fixing up the brand of car you have, but not necessary. Consumer Reports made a comparison of average repair costs between dealerships and independent garages, and for most repairs, the independent guys charge 20-40% less than the dealer....pretty significant.

Works the same here. Also the independents will put in used parts if you provide it yourselves. Done that for things like broken tail lights etc...

Yep the same here, although like the USA if it's a new car the dealers start making noises about it going out of warranty if anyone but them touches it. There's a couple of good independent small garages near me who do a good job although only just recently the owner of one of them said he was struggling to keep buying all the sophisticated diagnostic equipment needed to keep modern cars road legal.

Rune, photo number two..Is that an H&K G3 or similar you are carrying?
