When is the best time to start harvesting the birch Polypore? There's a few trees near me and I'm sure I've seen it grow but never picked it because I'm always weary of fungi.
Thanks in advance

Got a old Birch near me, with a polypore around 250mm across.
Just too high up, hopefully it will collapse soon☺
Nobody wins, unless everybody wins
All year . I've seen some biggies in my local area....they make really nice strops, and the flesh is is really good as a bandage, dried or straight off the tree. Super absorbent.

attempting to dry one out at the mo. it was still alive, but its the oldest, darkest one i could find.
such boggy ground here in north-west france.
everythings soaked through. probably half of the surrounding trees around this area are completely encased in soggy moss, and then ivy growing on top of that. insane.
gotta travel out of the woods if you wanna find dry wood.
on the flip-side, theres plenty of water to be had, its gushing out of the ground from everywhere.
