    Echoes from the past..

Last weekend I travelled down to the Welsh border from Sussex. It was in the nature of a recce for future wanderings and I wanted to see the Forest of Dean and the woodlands along the River Wye valley as the leaves change.

Looking West towards the Welsh Border..

Later I was walking in the woods when in the near distance I heard a sound that took me instantly back to my childhood, a steam train whistle! A quick map recce and a short journey and ..ok..I admit..I just couldn't resist it.

A trip in the Pullman Carriage..

About to couple up for the return journey..

That brought back some memories...and later the Fates seemed not to have finished with me as far as past times are concerned..
Walking through the narrow streets of a small town, just looking in the book shops etc: I saw a Charity Shop, Cancer Research I think, and as I got close an elderly lady came out to place items on the table outside on the pavement...
Deja Vu!!!..suddenly I was 16 and buying my first backpack again...

I really don't need another backpack..but this was pristine and virtually unused and it took me back 55 years...So Cancer Research got £10 and I ended up with a memorable weekend trip...

That's lovely that. I'm pretty sure that's the same as my dads old rucksack i used on my first school trips and scout camps etc.
