I was practicing knots & lashings recently a friend bought some Avler™ 1" (25.4mm) chrome steel ball bearings (Pack of 10) from the DIY store for creating paracord monkey fists inners. I was going to suggest using marbles for the centre, then I remembered I had spare in the bathroom drawer, a selection of aromatherapy wooden balls of solid wood, same size as the BB's. The wooden balls are used soaked in aromatherapy oils placed on radiators as they warm, they release the oil fragrance, used as room fresheners. Student practice knot tying the wooden balls did the trick in place of the BB's, not as heavy as a BB but a more natural heart for the monkey fist inner. These can be bought loose or in packets fragrance or fragrance free within Harry Corry home décor stores, they're not very expensive BTW.
