Isn't it nice when someone says "that's a great piece of kit, where did you buy that", then you can modestly reply "you can't buy it, I made it myself". The moral is, it's amazing what you can achieve if you put your mind to it.

hello,
Bump.. I'm thinking about creating a design or a name on my Hudson Bay tin. A fellow Bushcrafter has similar & has suggested maybe creating a Hudson Bay logo or some pattern from that era & adding a fictional date for authenticity. The Hudson Bay tins I have seen have some awesome designs engraved.
Regards
David
Hi David, really like the engraving idea...
I thought of this technique when reading your post...
https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Scratchboard
...a bit like the scraperfoil stuff, you know what I mean?!
The paint to cover it first can be acrylic or any metal paint ( ie: car scratch repair 😉
About three coats of it and a sealer as described here:

I suppose you could cover the lid in 3coats of black acrylic paint and then stencil in a design of your choice followed by "scratching" out the stenciled design...
Finishing off with the sealer to protect it...
Or even just silhouette engravings (Google Fu 😉 of lettering or design...
Just an idea... hope it inspires.
