    Crash!

Well, well, I managed to crash the car this morning....

Was going to drive the 4 year old to his day care. The driveway is covered in 10 cm of steel ice. And last night we had a topping of about 1 cm of wet snow.
I drive forward 5 meters to turn the car. But as I stop, the car starts to slide....sideways down the hill. And hit the neigbours tractor in the snow removing macinery at it's back.

Resulting damage on the tractor: non visible.

Damage on wifes VW Touran 2006 2.0 TDI Highliner DSG.

    Dented right fender
Broken glass on right head light (must be replaced)
Pierced and ripped lose front bumper
    Bent hood
    Cracked windscreen cleaning fluid bottle
Numerous internal bodywork plastic parts cracked.
Scratches in the paint on the right side door, so new paint job on that

Awaiting result of damage survey at the garage....I am fully insured, but there will be a 400£ deductible that I will have to pay myself, and my bonus gets dropped from 75% to 40%...

The total damage is probably 4-5000£....waiting for the estimate from the garage.

But with the kid in the car I am just glad he is okay. He is at daycare now, and I told them what have happened in case he gets a reaction. The speed was walking speed when we hit, and he was in his child seat, and he was not even upset...

Glad you both OK Rune.Insurance is a good thing when you need it!
!Surprised you have not got."BONUS" protection?
Here in UK,with bonus protection, one can have upto two accidents a year,n four in 3 years, without loosing ones no claims bonus.
Best of luck ,with the garage loan car.Dont forget to transfer little "Runes"car seat before it goes in for repair.ATB.M

Nothing like that here as far as I am aware of. And I won't even be offered a loan car.

Anyway the car is driveable. Good thing because the garage won't be able to take it in for the next two weeks. They have to be gicven the green light by the insurance company first,
and then order parts...wich will take at least a week to get up here....and there has been a lot of fender bumpers lately due to icy conditions, and the fact that Norwegians drive exactly like we do in summer, in winter...

They were on. But they were of no help today. The wet snow stuck to the tyres rendering the studs useless., which made the car slide sideways. I had zero traction with 4 new tyres with studs...

Just talked with the owner of the tractor, who belly laughed at the whole thing. Me too as fell on his bum trying to get down the hill to the tractor, which he does not dare to move...

I remember seeing a WWII documentary on the history channel about Bastogne, and one of the short films they showed was a black and white of a 33 ton M4 Sherman crossing a frozen river...well, guess what, it slid all over the place.
