Beautiful . It always impresses me how quickly a snowstorm can become a near white-out, especially up in the hills and mountains. The high winds whip the snow all around you, and when visibility goes to níl, you be smart to stop and dig in until it passes. Even without falling snow, if the winds are strong enough, any snow on the ground can be swept in the air to greatly reduce visibility...Mount Washington is famous for that, I believe the record wind speed was 372 kmh/231mph which occurred in 1934. Of course, this was a gust - average wind speeds almost always top 161 kmh/100mph .

It was a pleasant surprise to find snow at all!
And yeah we were quite secluded on a hillside and protected from the worst of the wind, however at some points it was as you say a pure whiteout!

Well, you sure did the right thing and made the best of it . Some people here, on the other hand, will not give a second thought and drive like maniacs in their 4 wheel drive pickups regardless....but Karma has a way of dealing with the ego-stuffed pompous fools.
