Thanks it's lovely wood to carve slightly hard being as black birch is the hardest of the birches I was to but the outside knife cuts are almost glass smooth

@palerider yeah they can be a pita to do especially if you've not done one before. Just takes sharp tools and the right piece of wood. Preferably green
