    Sassafras spoon

    Today's work just got this custom kephart styled knife made by a buddy for me. The knife used is an old forgecraft chefs knife handle is made from Russian olive wood as the sheath is. The sheath he made as a surprise wouldn't tell me till made. Anyways used just this knife and an axe for this spoon the wood is sassafras

    I did some research about the use of Sassafras wood during the colonial days...apparently it was considered almost magical, said to repel evil. Most household kitchen utensils were fashioned from Sassafrass when it was available...cups, spoons, noggins, tankards, etc. Doors were also prized if made from a Sassafrass .
