    'Bushcraft' Now a Trade-mark?

Just got done reading a bit of news from Ross at Woodtrekker about the BCUSA forum trade-marking the term 'bushcraft'. Funny thing is that the term 'bushcraft' has been used for quite some time already, before the BCUSA forum was even created. The sad truth of this is that, apparently, the staff at BCUSA and forum-host are trying to use the term for their own financial gain. This is a tricky situation...

Makes for some hilarious reading. Nothing to worry about over here though from what I make out.

Very entertaining. It's amusing how the "other forum" handled this.
He who says "he can" and he who says "he can't", are both usually right.

At first I thought to myself - It's not April 1st is it ?
But after reading some of the posts I think BCUSA have just cut their own throats trying to make an extra dollar.
Now I'm waiting to see if I get a mail asking me to remove/edit this post.
How sad they are and some of the reading is very funny lol

In December 1944, surrounded by the German army in the town of Bastogne, US General McAuliffe was given the chance by the Germans to surrender.
He gave the now famous reply, 'nuts!'

I can think of an equally pithy response, only somewhat more robust and anglo-saxon in nature...

IIRC the RAF tried to register the roundel but a judge said it had been in use for too long e.g by Lambretta , and that they should have spoken up sooner if it bothered them. (I paraphrased )
The same might apply in this case, unless they try Bushkraft (that might be a German electronic band though lol)

I remember reading a book about skills used by the aboriginals in Australia, the term 'bushcraft' was mentioned in the book, and the book was written in 1896!!

The good part, it seems, is that they technically cannot file suit against others (bloggers, other forums, etc.) who use 'bushcraft'...for now, at least. And even if they did, it would be amusing to see them try to claim rights over the term. Heck, even more amusing for BCUSA to be counter-sued.
