    Need help with a bag.

    Hi folks, need some help and advice on a slightly non bushcaft topic although some might find it useful.

    I have a bunch of youngsters undertaking a DofE assessment expedition shortly but one of the group has informed me today that his shoulders have been badly burnt to the point of blistering. The problem I now face is that this youngster will be unable to carry a conventional rucksack due to the load issues on his shoulders, so now I need to find an alternative carrying method. The obvious one is some sort of waist pack but I am struggling to find anything suitable to carry waterproofs, couple of litres of water, 2 days food, stove, first aid kit and emergency gear. I can possibly get away with him not carrying sleeping bag and his portion of the tent through dispensation.

    You folks are the best at coming up with some wonderful solutions on things so here is hoping you can help.

    Jus.

    Sorry to hear that mate.
    I've often observed some of Glasgow's indigenous people, (you know that ones who wear pyjamas to the shops) using a wonderful device to transport goods around...

    It can hold a lot of weight;

    Go with the bum bag option and dispensation for injury on the sleeping bag and tent parts. As you know. Jus blistered burns are highly susceptible to infection.....

    You actually may have sufficient cause to bin the youngster off the exped dependent on the percentage of burns.

    I'd go with the 'blanket' roll option, carry everything inside the roll.

    In this weather the blanket can replace the sleeping bag.

    Its a D of E expedition folks..not having things on the kit list can result in a fail - unless a dispensation is given.

    Also the kid has burnt 'shoulders' so a cross body bandolier carry will still affect at least one shoulder

    Would a small bicycle with panniers front and back pushed along be allowed ?
