    In a way, it's a bit like the very large Maglites. They were made so that security guards could carry them rather than a truncheon or night stick

    It's like a lot of these anomalies: OK to buy the item but Heaven help you if you're caught wandering around the streets with it

    Indeed. However my point still stands. The torch or baseball bat torch is still legal, same as knives are.

    It is illegal in the UK to carry ANYTHING with intent to use it as a weapon!
    If there are no women around and a man says something, is he still wrong?
