    Wow... That's pretty cool.
Never witnessed it appear like that in broad daylight.

That's really beautiful. And a good reminder of how quickly conditions can change.

Undertook my Scouting Terrain 1 assessment this weekend. Two days of proving my ability to navigate across the open moorland of Dartmoor including night navigation which now allows me to take groups out up to 800m. We had ice on the tents by 6 o'clock last night and it was a chilly weekend overall but this was my view this morning, well worth it.

We've had a few cold and clear mornings here in the UK. This photo was taken north of Sandhurst (Royal Military Academy).

The view from my shed tonight:

Loving those lights Fishy. How short are the days there this time of year?

We do not have days this time of year. The sun stays bellow the horizon 24/7 between the 25th of november until the 19th of January. But if there was no mountains between us and the southern horizon, the sun would be back arouynd the tenth.

What we do get is a few hours of twilight around noon, starting around 10 in the morning, but it is night dark again by 3 in the afternoon.

Where I grew up at the SValbard islands, we had complete darkness for 3 months.

Here is a picture I took around noon, around a week before the first sunrise of 2016, last january. As you can see the sun shines on the mountain, but not down here.
We are still a few days from seeing the sun shine on the mountain tops.
