    Knife making workshops?

I'd really like to try making a knife, but have no metal work experience and no metal working tools.
Can anyone point me in the direction of someone in Cornwall who does a knife workshop for idiots?
Sorry if it's been covered elsewhere.

The only person that springs to mind is http://www.davebudd.com/ he is in Devon west of Exeter. Heard some really good things about him over on bcuk.
Hopefully you will get some other suggestions to select from.

Another vote for Dave Budd. Based on the edge of Dartmoor so not too far from the border.

Gransfors Bruk run courses. They are supposed to be very good but they're not cheap plus you've got the expense of getting there

Thanks for the suggestions, having followed the links I think I'll file that idea under 'pipe dreams'!

Have a go at making one yourself, start with a shop bought blade like a lauri and put a handle on it, if you want to go a bit further just buy some 01 flat ground stock and bash away with some files, the heat treat is relatively straight forward.

Best way to learn is DIY and start with a cheap blade for practice

go buy a few cheap files from your local car booty and break out the bbq!
There is pleasure in the pathless woods, There is a rapture on the lonely shore, There is society, where none intrudes,
By the deep sea, and music in its roar, I love not man the less, but Nature more.

Those lauri blades look good at that price, and making a handle isn't so daunting without instruction.
On the other hand, I know I won't be quite satisfied till I've made my own, so deep end it is.
Either way, It's gonna have to wait till exams are done. Watch this space for endless questions in the coming months!

There's enough experience in here to guide you through... And the carbon lauri blades are superb!
