    Talacre

Went for a 3 hour stroll along Talacre beach yesterday, good exercise for the thighs walking on the beach and I also found a nodule of chert the second reasonable piece I have found in the area.

I just hope this one breaks better than the last one did.

    Sweet!
I've had a tough time for awhile finding anything that will produce decent flakes...fortunately, I have a friend who is a geologist, and he pointed me out to the things to look for . Crystalline quartz is fairly uncommon here but flakes really well, same with chert. Finding good quartzite can be tough sometimes, as all the nice pieces are usually too small for much use.
The key is to find out what the Natives used and go from there - he has collected some fine examples of quartzite arrowheads used by the Mahican tribal folk who previously inhabited the area.

Indeed - books can't tell you everything.
