I don't know if anyone remembers this photo from one of my previous posts but, when I was in the wood for a couple of nights at Ostara the second day (Sunday) was very wet. So the hunt for hanging dead wood was on for a cooking fire. I remembered the dead Ivy creeper and cut it down, I'm sure others know that the very thin strands make good, if fast burning kindling and the thicker stalks, if completely dead burn very well. As I dragged it back to camp I thought how comfortable in the hand the thicker stalk was and so rather than burn it I remembered I had a spare Leuku blade that needed a handle...
I don't care to use power tools much and own very few, so this was all handraulic....Work begins...

I very much admire the pro knife makers, but I wanted to use what materials I had available without exotic woods and fancy brass pins etc: Hence the bolster and butt plate from a brass finger plate off a door and brass woodscrews to secure it in situ.
The leather spacers were the tongue of an old pair of German Para boots..
I've given it a couple of coats of Teak Oil. I've got big mitts and the knife fits well. It will get lots of use, I don't find much use for small blades so it's a Jack of all trades knife for me..
And that's about it from me for a while. I've got a fair size cache of stores in the wood and the woodland is filled with the scent of Bluebells and smell of Ramsons. Time to go, the laptop goes back in it's box..
