The Stinging Nettles and Hedge Garlic are rising . I find this is the best time to enjoy nettles raw - flatten the hairs by brushing them upward towards the tip in-between the fingers...if you're unsure, follow by rubbing the plant in the palms.

    Ramps!
This is the closest native Allium over here comparable to Ramsons. Notice the Skunk Cabbage in the back...

Sorry Bernie, we are entering Autumn/Winter here in SA, however for you guys inthe Northern hemisphere:

Spring is sprung the grass is ris,
I wonder where the Birdies is,
the birds is on the wing,
    but that's absurd,
I always thought the wing was on the bird!

Accredited to many differing poets, strongest case is for a American from Brooklyn whereupon Bird becomes "Boid" etc.
    I learnt the Anglicized version.

People never think Winter in SA is as cold as it is. Do houses have central heating there these days? They never did when I grew up (in Cape Town).

You realise of course all your fellow bushcrafters will be totally flumexed by the fact you have a "boet" who's also a "China", my maat!
I'm out in Durbanville and I've yet to come across a house with centeral heating, I mean as an example a regte boerer familie moved in next door a couple of years back and the first thing they did was take the tile roof off and stick on a zinc one, not the fancy ones you get in the UK, I mean a proper Dorp type roof!
No the winter season is getting pretty chilly nowadays, gas heaters and electric heaters running most of the time and definately long pants once the sun goes down, in fact I'm thinking of giving up my shorts for the season now!
As soon as the Spring season starts here I'll drive out along the West Coast Rd and photograph some vygies, for you
