although I use a go pro for a lot of filming, this muvi is also a great little unit, much cheaper, but as good as, if not better, as it has a viewing screen on back, plus remote control for video or pictures

although another action camera that's getting good reviews is the SJ1000, basically a chinese import, but just look at what you get

and for the price, you could buy two, if your into editing, its always good to mix up camera shots, this video was taken using a go pro and a couple of extra action cams, not my editing, but our friend lewis that helps out,

That's one of the best edited videos I've seen in a long time.

Isn't it nice when someone says "that's a great piece of kit, where did you buy that", then you can modestly reply "you can't buy it, I made it myself". The moral is, it's amazing what you can achieve if you put your mind to it.

As mentioned, modern DSLRs can have great video quality, and most won't have a limit for length (some still do I believe, so it's worth checking).
Some DSLRs aren't so good though. I have a Pentax, which as 1080p video capability, but the footage can be a bit jerky, even with class10 cards.
If you want a dedicated camcorder style, I'd highly recommend Samsung for quality, and function. Many of the Samsung camcorders used to have time lapse, which others seem to lack, making it great for certain shots (sunrise, sunset, etc). The stability control on them is usually top notch too.
I'm not up to date with current model specs, but there are plenty to choose from, so just make sure you try and find out as much as possible before you take the plunge

My mum has a Samsung ST200F, which was about 40 quid, HD video and superb photos, plus WiFi, I'm unsure why it was for sale at £40, it's far better than advertised. Produced video up there with the camcorders 4 times the price.
