if I owned some land-which I am looking to do- I wouldn't want other people camping on it or even just walking on it, private means that-private.

By force or fear...normally both....in keeping with the OP I know of several people who have rental/lease agreements with the FC so not all hope is lost. One other valuable bit of info is the rules surrounding camping even on land you own....a trip to the Natural England website will provide all the info you may need

A massive forest I agree in parts it's very busy but I think if you got a map of it somehow you could tuck youre self away there are some bits of it that are very dark and primevil lol, some of the Torbay woodlands manscombe, occombe and scadson woods are also busy with dog walkers and bikers but there are some parts of those woodland were no one ventures ,I have explored 2 of those 3 I'm yet to do manscombe properly, but you would need a map and compass for sure in Haldon you could easily get lost if you ventured out off the paths lol, cookworthy forest is also a big one thats in north Devon on the edge of dartmoor and there's not so many people as its less built up over that way.

This is why I love our Scandinavian "Freedom to roam" laws. Our land is also owned by someone, but putting up a "Keep out" sign or a "No entry sign" is as illegal as trying to keep people off the land. :-)

go onto private land here and its trespassing, not a criminal offence its a civil matter, moorland is available in the UK where you can go wild camping.

The church and by thieving those who they were purporting to support. There is still tied land to this day that if a person buys a field they best beware as if it borders church ground they may just find themselves liable for the upkeep of the church.

not just fields, houses too! if you buy a property called church cottage or something similar watch out you could be liable to pay for a new church roof or other repairs.
