I was on a training exercise between Merrivale and Princetown weekend before last. Visibility down to about 40m at times with torrential rain and there were folks out everywhere. Can't say I would have been out given the choice.

Yep, problem was though that the purpose for the training exercise was to teach navigation. Made life a little more interesting.

Unless its a perfectly flat desert...map lools like a sheet of sandpaper....you should visit the dark peak Jus its as boggy and wet as Dartmoor but has proper hills

Dartmoor is a pretty popular place especially when the weather is like it is today. I normally walk around Harford near to where I live or up on the north moor. I have steered away from Haytor areas around Haytor as it seems incredibly popular with car parks at and well marked paths at the bottom of every tor. I have heard that there is a wood near Haytor that is decent. Does anyone know if Yarner Wood or Hisley Wood are FC and readily accessible?
