Cookworthy looks a big place I have been into the forest briefly but not explored it paul,I'd imagine there are parts in it where no one goes or knows about, and it's the forest I saw my first wild barn owl ,he was gliding very low sweeping the verges looking for his breakfast a truely wonderful sight to see .

very rough track into the forest, its ok for walking the dog but I don't know if I'd want to hike very far into it carrying a full pack, and I certainly wouldn't want to cycle on it. Dartmoor is a darn sight easier to walk on!!

Dartmoor is easier but lacks any real forest that's the only problem with it,were do you kip out on dartmoor Paul,I like the northern part of Devon it's much quieter and less built up,and youre okay if you have light gear and walking poles then rough terrain isn't to bad.

either down around Ivybridge , South Brent, Cornwood areas or up around Princetown, I've spent a lot of time on Dartmoor over the years, used to be able to go for weeks on the moor without seeing anyone but these days its very crowded.

Yes I was saying that very same thing the other day lol,we used to go to a place called mothecombe when we were kids and it used to be empty,it was packed the other day I think it's due to more people living here now and people find out these places via the Internet, even in my lifetime Torbay has grown its joined by a ribbon of concrete to Newton about more aless, the same as Exeter and Plymouth all have grown over the years.sad in some ways but that's progress I guess.

yes I know Mothecombe very well, friend lives at Holbeton which is nearby. the trouble is there are far TOO MANY people these days, just been to Exeter car boot this morning, the place is heaving with people, that's one reason I don't live in Plymouth any more but in a nice, quiet, rural area.
