Forestry commission access.

There's quite a sizable wooded area very local to me which is owned(?) by the forestry commission. There seems to be two main entrances into it. The first has 'no trespass signs' and is obviously used for when they clear cut (the local deer looked fairly confused). But the second is a little less 'industrial' with signs with a (presumed) land name, leasehold and 'no public access' which sounds a little more promising.

I've tried to find more info online but to no avail. There is some farm land that backs onto it, which might be worth a look in.

Does anyone any experience this woodland labeled as above?

Sounds like a privately owned plantation rather than Forestry Commission. I have yet to find a FC plantation down this way that prohibits access unless they are actively logging, and most are signed as FC land with obvious paths marked. I would hazard a guess that it relates to the local farm or someone local as an investment crop.

That sounds promising, if I've read that right. Might pop over this weekend and see if they need any overnight security and/or 'pest' control.

It's becoming increasingly difficult to find nice woodland that isn't full of underage drunkards or....erm....secret gentleman only romance meetings (I'm sure you can read between the lines) anywhere local. It's been ages since I've gone on an overnighter on a whim.

Justin isint the expansesive Haldon forest owned by the forestry commission,they let travellers live in it,so I wouldn't imagine a sensible bushcrafter would be a issue and its so big they couldn't find you if they wanted lol,

you can find out who own's anything just by going through the land registry, last time I looked it was a £6 charge
our block of woods has the same type signs up, inc "get orf my land" and trespassers will be shot and buried

It is a huge area, 3500 acres, and I have only ever walked a couple of small sections of it. They have had some problems down there with this weather, shut the entire forest down because of trees toppling. There are a lot of pathways and cycle tracks through the Park and the sections I have seen, you would struggle to stay out of sight.

Sadly, very true. Thankfully, we have a right to ,travel, a right to rest on them travels, a right to privacy. The fact that you can't erect a shelter, on other people's land, ie a tarp/tent, can be circumvented by useing a natural shelter. Have you ever stopped to think, who the biggest land owners are, and how they acquired the land, in the first place..
