Been wanting to make a bow drill kit for a while now. I'm wanting to know if a skateboard bearing is suitable to use. My brother has a few I can have buck shee if they are.

Isn't it nice when someone says "that's a great piece of kit, where did you buy that", then you can modestly reply "you can't buy it, I made it myself". The moral is, it's amazing what you can achieve if you put your mind to it.

Whats wrong with using a piece of green wood a leaf in to lube it?
The benefits to some modern stuff, if it's helps use it IMO. I have done it the old way, but bearings make it as frictionless as your going to get. So in somthing as finicky as a bow drill if it's going to give you an advantage it's worth it. Not that I rely on it in any way as I usually have about 4 ways to light a fire anyway.
