I received a Mora knife blade from the inlaws for crimbo and had no idea what to do with it, eventually got fed up of looking at it wondering so just went at it with what i had to hand.
that being a piece of antler (dog chew), so set about cutting with a hack saw, random size discs hollowed out to take the tang, this was done with a pointed needle file to make the first initial hole then the rest was pushed on to keep a tight fit, leather added in-between each disc and plenty of glue to stick the discs and leather together, none on the tang as i already had a tight fit, defaced a coin (5 pence piece ) and drilled it so i had a hard surface to peen the tang over against.
got that all together and filed it all to a basic shape i wanted then proceeded with sand paper (highly recommend a mask), then went about with me chip carving knife to add some detail, used some left over charcoal from my pine pitch experiment to bring out the markings.
pretty happy with what came out to be quite fair as its only my second go at scrimshaw type workings, so here it is
