Anyone know what these might be?

Saw these out on a walk today, probably not edible but I'm curious as to what they are nonetheless!

I'd rather a full bottle in front of me than a full frontal lobotomy

Interesting find there Freddy. I've never come across anything like that on my travels.

    Agree with claverhouse, Spindle.
Not sure how poisonous, will certainly have a purging effect

Hi guys! Thought I'd resurrect this instead of starting a new one.. Found this the other day walking the dog on the beach..

It's probably just an ornamental plant that's been spread but it appears to be fairly abundant in that area..

Looks like Hottentot-fig Carpobrotus edulis the fruit of which is supposedly edible.
Found it in an old readers digest book on plants and it is limited, it says, to Devon, Cornwall and around Dublin.

    And of course, South Africa.

I saw a lot of this as a kid in Cape Town. Never seen it locally in Devon or Cornwall though. Very fleshy leaves but I'm not sure if the moisture can be used for anything. I bet a real Hottentot could tell you - if you could understand all those clicking noises s/he would be making. Such a wonderful gentle language and people.

The book says it was introduced to british gardens from there around 1690 hence the name, it likes sandy areas. I am surprised it has not spread further.
