Just my thoughts on this, in no way a criticism of any other views.
I find hunting something as large as a bear with a bow and arrow, uncomfortable. From the point of view of, making sure the quarry is killed cleanly and instantly.

From my 35 years or more of hunting experience, I've come to the conclusion that clean kills are only somewhat common and instant kills are very rare.
Most bowhunters I know do target practice a heck of a lot more often that firearm hunters. One thing bear hunting has over deer hunting is the fact that
a shot is almost never taken at a moving bear, whereas half the shots taken at deer are at moving ones.
If you want to see some of the sloppiest and most torturous hunting kills just watch any nature video of lions or hyenas bringing down some sorry-ass
wildebeest or zebra...they have the wretched thing half eaten before it finally expires!
