The founder members of this forum are Cornwall based, so you should not have too many problem finding some local help. Failing that you might have to venture over the Tamar.

Just keep your eyes out for the various meets that are happening on a regular basis and posted here, just put you name down for one.

Turn up and you'll meet some amasingly friendly people with a wealth of knowledge that they are more than willing to pass on.

Bring a libation and they will be your friends for life.

    to the forum Lyn.

There are quite a few outdoors enthusiasts based in Cornwall (there are a couple in Devon too, but we do not speak of such folk): foragers, fire lighters, shelter builders, wood workers, wild campers, swingers and many more, including at least one poshcrafter; who practice and enjoy many of the various pursuits that come under the umbrella term that is bushcraft; some are just starting out, others have been doing it for years and are still learning. most if not all would be happy to help you out.

If you have something(s) in particular you would like learn, there is a good chance the question has already been asked and answered in an existing thread. but if you can not find what you are after, ask a question and I am sure several people with the relevant knowledge, skills and experience will soon step forward with an answer (probably several answers, as while there things you should not do and most will agree they should not be done, there is rarely only ever one right way you can do something and part of the fun is finding which way works best for you).

You may also want to keep an eye on the South West meets and gatherings thread, as there have recently been semi regular weekend get togethers happening at Woodland Valley Farm near Ladock (which is about halfway between Truro and St Austell, if you don't know Ladock) and there may well be another on the 21st of this month. An opportunity to enjoy the great outdoors in good company, where you may learn a thing or two and could quite as easily teach others a skill or two, too.

    Enjoy the forum.

Oi Colin, watch what your saying about us Devon folk

Welcome to the forum Lyn. The meets are getting a little more common as more folk find the time to get out and about. As others have stated, watch out for the arranged meets in the appropriate threads and just join in. We are a friendly bunch and always enjoy new company no matter what the level of skill. We all had to begin at the beginning
