I've no idea if it is just my local shop, but I popped into Tescos earlier and they were flogging off all their camping and hiking gear for pence (a 90% mark down).

I already have these, but as I have not bought anything for a while and they were going cheap, I figured it would not hurt to have spares

    Tesco Aluminium Camping Kettle, 1L

    30p

    Tesco Camping Food Storage Set

    50p

Tesco Insulated Foil Backed Foam Camping Mat

    40p

Tesco Lightweight Plastic LED Tent Pegs 4pk

    25p

    Total spend £1.45

My local shop is just one of the little ones, so not that much gear to begin with, but if the bigger shops with the fuller range are also clearing the decks, there could be some bargains to be had.

    Happy Shopping.

It was, there were tent pegs, a couple of rubber mallets, an air pump, a single trekking pole and a junior sleeping bag left after I had had my rummage.

I've only been to the one over your way a couple of times and didn't see much gear in there, but worth popping your head in if you are passing. I do know the big one up in Poole has quite an extensive range gear and I've snagged a couple of bargains there before, so if I get a chance, I'll be popping up for a look in the next couple of days.

It isnt for every day camping bud

I have a 70ltr SnugPak RocketPak for car camping (i.e not far to travel to camp) and a Osprey Exos 46 for hiking/camping.

However I got this vintage pack simply for more older/traditional style, like the Daniel Boon challenge on BCUK. I want to have a go at camping for weekend with none of the more modern gear I'm used to so wont be taking all my little bits and pieces with me and thus the 40ltr will be ample. I obviously much prefer more modern gear but really want to do it for the experience and for fun

Here's copper_heads report from his challenge, Looks great. I'm going to be doing it in November

Ha ha, my car camping/pulk hauled back pack is now this one. A 125 litre Norrøna Recon Pack...the side pockets are detachable and comes with carrying straps to be used as a get away pack :-)

Victory awaits the one, that has everything in order - luck we call it
Defeat is an absolute consequense for the one that have neglected to do the necessary preparations - bad luck we call it
