    Labyrinth Spider

    Out for walk in the local woods today and saw this chap on the prowl...

    Nice photo. I've seen their webs/traps but can't ever remember seeing the builder. Looking at him I'm glad I'm not an insect..

    I see them all over the meadows in my area, especially in the morning when dew sparkles on their webs. They are very quick little spidies .

    I saw him dash off as I approached.
    It then took a couple of minutes of waiting, stock-still, for him to come back out. And then he conveniently posed so I could get him and his funnel in the picture.

    They are extremely sensitive to vibrations, so I bet this guy felt your presence at first, which is why it ran for cover. It probably thought you were gone when it emerged again...they have poor eyesight.
