interesting concept, but surviving in unfamiliar territory is hard, just hill walking in a strange country with unknown plants, animals and insects is a bit daunting - even the climate....fair play to them

this latest episode was not a great one, some of the others showed some great skills episode 2 was pretty good think that was Tanzania, the naked part is something i think they used to draw in an audience, would be better if they didn't opaque the body parts out, i mean its on at 9pm or after dont see the issue really, if eastenders can get away with baby stealing and the likes i'm sure a bit of boob and balls would not hurt any one in a survival based program.
I'm a simple man, pleased by simple things...................Nature wins.
Take your time and do not rush, take in every thing while out in the brush.
Must keep the make up artist busy, covering up all the mosquito bites.

There was a series of this last year also, cant remember who the guy was on it . Not watched this one yet but its recorded on my sky box for a rainy day.
Just watched this today. Looks like they are trying to copy Ed Staffords Tv mini series and cross it with the some of the concept of Manhunter.
So far not massively impressed by the content... Too much about them and their feelings and not enough on the Survival side of things.
Looking through some of the responses above the naked thing appears to be an issue. I don't think it is about the whole comfort zone thing, but more to do with dealing with various exposure types. Also the number of uses for various items of clothing would provide them with a man made advantage. I think the whole concept is to remove as many 'comforts' as possible -rough terrain with no boots, cold nights with no layers, midges/mossies with no physical barrier. It brings a whole new set of issues to deal with. Desert scenearios are going to be interesting as are boreal forestry.
I think I kind of said the same about Ed Staffords show.

O.k. Just got to the end of it.
Biggest comment - the Whole Survival rating thing is a rip off from Manhunter and whoever the so-called experts are that judge them are idiots. The mental attitude of the bloke would have been totally destructive in a larger group dynamic or even if it had been to males, If it had been me judging I would have reduced his score as a direct result, he wasted energy in tantrums and bitching which could have been put to better use. The lass on the other hand took a little longer to adjust to the new environment but very quickly began to adapt her knowledge to her surroundings and showed vast improvements in her abilities.
Once the Shelter and fire were up and running, they seemed to stall in their progression and never really made themselves any more comfortable. With the exeception of the Fish traps I saw little evidence of any camp craft, simple things such as better seating, covered wood store, water collectors, reflector for the fire. I know energy would have played a key part in this, but they had plenty to expend on constantly returning to the river and breaking wood.
Considering they were both supposed to be survivial\bushcraft practioners I was a little disappointed. One thing it did highlight further to me is the massive difference in survival and bushcraft - those that practice survival tend to be a lot more gungho! mentally unstable, impatient and huge risk takers. Those that practice Bushcraft have a stronger mental attitude, more patience and seem to be better at applying the survival\bushcraft skills more effectively as a result. Bear vs Grylls, Cody vs Dave, in all these programs the bushcrafter is nearly the most rational and capable.
I will watch the next one though just to see if it gets any better.

Interesting you mention Grylls, it's always struck me that whilst he was running head-first into a tree or jumping off rocks for no reason whatsoever, a normal person would put up a rudimentary shelter and try to get a fire going.
