Just popped out with the hounds to Ashenbank wood and found enough garlic (ramsons) to last a lifetime!
I've never seen so much!

- You’ll never be lost if you remember that moss always grows on the north side of your compass.
- While the Swiss Army Knife has been popular for years, the Swiss Navy Knife has remained largely unheard of. Its single blade functions as a tiny canoe paddle.

We owe the debt of our blood to our ancestors and our skills to their perserverance.
Woods are carpeted with it round my way too...
Loads in a friends garden too. I dug some up and it tasted rather strong

Yep, lot's out down this way too. Other things were late, but not the Ramsons
my fav wild edible, I love it!
I have a question..... how close a relation to garlic is the Ramson plant?
Is it more like strong spring onion?
Okay so that's two!
I have an allergic reaction to garlic and not restricted to eating it either, so it is kinda important to me. Ta!
Rob.
Not a specialist but I'd say it was closer to Garlic than onion although they are both Allium...Cepa (onion) or Ursinum (Ramson)
I looked in one of my books and it actually gives a warning for Ramsons that they can produce reaction in some people, although that could be said of many wild plants I suppose. Wild onion is a tall spindly plant with a ball like white flower head, so looks different to Ramsons.
They're both genius 'Allium', so you may have the same reaction with Ramsons. Most of the wild Alliums are a bit milder than commercial garlic.
