    Paracord

I've been looking for a bulk sized spool of paracord and came across loads of THIS stuff. I reckon it should be okay for guy lines but would it be alright for ridge lines and tarp lines?

On a google search breaking strain is stated at 50kgs, 70kgs and 50lbs so very confusing. Hope this helps Bob.

I have a spool of this. It's not the real deal, but its OK. Saying that, I've not given it any abuse yet. TBH, I've made some lanyards for my knives and tied up some frames for this years pea and bean crop.

I bought a spool about three years ago. It is apt to melt under friction. Ridge lines and tarp lines aren't really high tension so it will be fine for that. It's not going to last for ever but it's cheap enough.

    Hope this helps

Just for the sake of redundacy, real paracord is known as '550 cord', for it's rated strength of 550lbs.

I have 5mm climbing cord which is used for attaching to chocks and other climbing equipment, seems to do the trick very well. Be careful buying para cord... as CanadianMike says the real stuff is known as 550 cord. but some places sell the cheap version instead of it, and it tends to fray or the inner cords start to show through the outer sheath.

I have a spool of this as well. It is not actually paracord - but a much rougher/looser nylon cord. It is not bad though, just not paracord.
