    Old Tools

I am developing a adiction to old tools, I found this website when I was searching for a Bill Hook. http://www.oldtools.co.uk/
I have many old tools from my Dad, he's a traditional cabinet maker (now retired) so I have box planes and some old saws, chisels and so on.

Has anyone else got this sort of problem, I am looking forward to this summers woodfest at Westonbirt Arboretum, its a treasure trove of old tools.

Damnit! More food for the addictions.
We owe the debt of our blood to our ancestors and our skills to their perserverance.

My grand pa and dad were both carpenters, I have a lot of old tools including a chalk line that was made in 1902. I feel that old tools have a sense of history and I marvel at their construction quality. The wife has a cow when ever I look at antique tools, " your not thinking of buying another thing you'll never use, are you" ?? Uh.... maybe.

i often look through boxes of old tools and try and justify buying them. Normally, if it is in good working order or I can use it as a pattern to make a modern version, then the internal struggle is a short one!

I agree with you all, old tools have an amazing attraction. They don't make em like that anymore, proper mans tools.

Yeah, it's not everyday when you can walk into a carpenter's workshop and see hundreds of different types of hammers, wood rasps, files, chisels, etc.
I love how a lot of carpenters are turning back to hand tools over power tools - there's more attention to detail, and it's an enjoyable process.
My godfather liked his power equipment, but he loved his hand tools.

Now thers a challenge, my dad told me the other day he's leaving all his tools to me in the will. They include all my grandads tools too, not wanting him to kick the bucket just yet but, CAN'T WAIT ! (to get the tools that is....)
