    Fyke Net

Almost 40 years ago I began making fish nets and traps when a local group invlved with preserving local folk culture http://goschenhoppen.org/ asked me to be the net maker for their annual folk festival. They put me in touch with a older gentleman who with his grandmother made fyke nets in the early 1900's. They would receive twine from the local general store and make nets in trade for groceries. The store in turn would sell the completed nets to fishermen on the lower Susquehanna River. He tauaght me his family net making techniques and patterns.
