    Flood Survival

As you may know, we in Clovelly had quite a time with a flash flood recently. Much of the footage was mine.

As a survival instructor, it inspired me to write an article. And here it is.

Heard about this one yesterday from the chap I was working with. He lives in the village and said he got away lightly with about an inch of silt across the ground floor but it sounded bad. Have yet to see the footage so will look that one up later

A well written article there. On the prepping front though, prepping for the end of the world is fine, but your entire episode was over in a small number of hours. I would suggest you do not need tins of stew, a 12v electric system, a gas burner, large amounts of freshwater and a phone with an 8 day battery life if you can walk across the road and got to the pub! Also you made no mention of the extremely high risk that the local graveyard would flood and the dead would rise from the ground.

Besides that, I love the comment in the first paragraph, "the volume of water that came down the street without any warning, other than the fact it had rained for quite a while".

I am in awe of the adchoices that your blog provider has linked to your page!

Not at all, I quite enjoyed the video and the write up.

I am absolutely marvelling at the way the Blogging programme picks up on key words like 'flood', 'deluge', 'water', 'house' and then sticks up the relevant local advertising! Computers are dead clever aren't they?

Who was it in the village that you know jus_young? (pm me)? The only thing I got was a bit in the coal shed. Nothing in the house.

I agree that prepping for being cut off in 3m of water is not the Clovelly way, since we're on such a steep hill. I was thinking more of the big ones off the M5 and in Carlisle.

You can probably still get Spotlight on iplayer. Other than that, there is one in the article and plenty on youtube.

Yes and South Yorkshire, The Calder Valley, more recently the Vale of York and North East. Not forgetting too that flood water isn't just full of debris at different levels, but as we found out in South Yorkshire... human and industrial pollutants.

Im with you Steve. Many people in S Yorks didn't return to their homes and a 'normal' standard of living 3 + months after the floods, likewise in Cumbria. we still have homes and businesses in the Calder Valley that cannot go back to normality fir many weeks or months and everytime it rains theres a feeling of apprehension
