I am a strong advocate of free software and would my self have gone for a free forum package even if it wasn't quite right for the task!
I am liking vBulletin more and more as I work with it! and commend Ashley on choosing a good forum package.

Do not mess with the forces of Nature, for thou art small and biodegradable!
Thanks Pete!
I also prefer to use free / open source software when I can, because I like the open/sharing ethos and the price tag!
VBulletin really is a nice, well matured system. It's backend-system is thouroughly extensive; allowing for great flexibility & it intergrates well with lots of other things For example we managed to pretty easily setup user database synchronization to our exsisting website platform, so that the website's exsisting 2,000 users were automatically setup with forum accounts
Very much liking the Forum layout and software, similar look and feel to BCUK and Hammock Forums, which keeps it all simple to switch between them all.
looking forward to it going live.
