    Sounds well weird that! I reckon if that started at night and you were camping nearby you would shi...... be quite spooked!

    It's even more fun when you're standing in the middle of a lake when the ice is making those noises under foot; you can feel and see the cracks forming.
    The first couple times it happens you get properly freaked out, then it gets so you hardly notice it...

    And then for a real rush, there's driving on ice...

    I'll try to remember to revive this thread in January if I can keep the video camera warm long enough to get some footage...

    Very true, Al. Especially the hardwoods like the maple and ash...they sound quite literally like gunshots.
