The world is big and I want to have a good look at it before it gets dark.

Been all over a few of the FB groups I'm on past days, I am tired of saying "I told you so!" as I knew about this failure back in the winter........
Easier to post this, but you can see the failure, there is little metal left between the handle and the blade due to the way they did it, hole in the middle, thin steel, and a size reduction to accomodate the handle. Thing reaks of failure!

What on earth? Such a heavy blade that should be designed to put-up with some punishment and it goes that thin where it meets the neck!?
I knew those blades would be junk as soon as they came out - they're just designed to cash-in on the Bear Grylls hype - disgusting.
Ok guys, I am no fan of Bear Grylls at all. In fact, I'm banned from watching him on telly as it tends to trigger off some form of Tourette's syndrome episode.
But I do have to say that the lions share of the blame should be absorbed by Gerber themselves. They manufactured and "should" have field tested the crap out of it.
Morally speaking BG should have insisted on this being done if he was to put his name to it.
Ade.

I put the blame on Gerber themselves, and the fact they "imported" these things. For this one especially, it should be a full tang design with those goofy looking scales bolted on, and made to NOT break. Looked around a bit for the steel type, found this (which adds to the problem):
1. Blade steel - 1055 carbon steel
2. Blade thickness - 1/8"
3. Rockwell hardness of the blade - 46-48Rc
A medium carbon steel with that low of a hardness, with a thin (for the type) blade, and having that much weight forward while being able to fit into the handle like that, guaranteed to break easily.
Grylls induced tourettes!
I thought it was just me!!! Glad to know its nation wide then hehe
