    Hi buddy

Do you dry your penny buns before you use them or do you just eat them fresh?

Personally, I tend to eat about a third of them fresh and dry the rest for later use in Risottos etc

My wife is the mushy expert, I don't really touch the the stuff due to my tummy problems.
But she boils them direct into a soup, that she freezes for storage. Same with the birch bolette

Here is a vid from today. Not so informative as yours, but thats because my knowledge on mushies is very, very limited.

Great video buddy. Really nice to see that you are involving your family too.

It's great to pass on your knowledge to your son.

    All the best

Yeah he is getting huge in no time. Actually we were worried as he did not eat much for a while, and was not packing on the kilos as he should. But that is more or less over know.

what do you use the loupe for? diamond trade?

in the roger philips mushroom book it refers to the spores of the horse mushroom (one I struggled with recently) as ellipsoid 7-8x4.5-5u(this u has a little tail)

    what does it mean?

and to AL my car has a small wild food library in it, and wikipedi is a good friend as well as yahoo images. But you need the books to give you some names to search for on the web

when you are scared of kicking the bucket, a spore print is a must

last season I wasn't sure if I had blewits or not, a spore print proved I had a poisonous imposter

The loupe is used to get a good close up view of gill pattern, how they are attached to the stipe (stem) etc. I wouldn't worry too much about spore shape and size to be honest. The spores are so small that you can't really distinguish them without a pretty powerful microscope.

Use black and white paper to determine spore pattern and colour instead, it's much more informative and great to do with the kids.
