Have you tried striking a firesteel with the spine yet? It does that better than any other knife in my possesion. There should be an Opinel in any firekit really.

The compass is just a promtional keychain compass from Stetson, but it is surprisingly well made.

Ha ha, I have worn a path around mine from circling it for days now :-)

That little compass is actually fairly okay for what it is. Compared it to a Silva, and it's quite accurate. I'll put it with my fire kit.
Did trythe Opinel with a firesteel, and that was impressive. As good as that little Brusletto Balder I use as a neck knife. But I am not used to that concept yet, so I keep leaving it at home.
The opinel wil always live in my pockets :-)
