Hiya, I thought I would introduce myself.

I've been a keen backwoods camper for many years now. When I'm not being bitten by midgies I am either planning trips or building stuff.

I'm not a bushcraft expert by any means, but I have been roughing it in the backwoods for 30 or so years so I do have some skills.

I'm more interested in the outdoors as a habitat, skills and craft than I am in the survival and paramilitary side of the scene that some are into.

I would be up for a meet of like minded peeps.

In recent years I have built a canoe, a finnish knife and a teardrop camping trailer (see photos below) and many other projects not related to the outdoors including a home foundry and several CNC routers. The trailer was built so that my missus would go camping with me. So far with limited success.

Hey Big Al, a very warm welcome to the NaturalBushcraft forum and many thanks for sharing your great pictures with us. What does the name of the canoe mean?

Hi Martin, Thanks for the welcome. "The maiden" might be a good translation. I was going to call her "A' Mhaighdean nan Lochan" (The maid of the loch) but I was unsure of the Gaelic grammar and the two Gaelic speakers I know disagreed on the translation.

I sold her on eBay and have regretted it ever since. It's time to build another methinks.

Hi bigal welcome to the forum.
You live in a good part of the world for camping. As for the canoe, it was on my mind to build a small one and coming up you way to do some paddling and camping, maybe next year.
    Also love the caravan

Every mile on a river takes you further from home than every hundred miles on a road.

I hope thats a birchbark canoe in your pocket.... - I guess i should give some credit to Metal Mug
