last year I had a couple of nests full of jays behind my workshop somewhere, and they definately make a racket! Only ever saw the odd blue flash betwen the trees thoughI haven't seen a stationary jaw in years.

The Jays on my local patch have flourished over the last few years, there is a gang of about 30 now that aint at all shy. Theve even pushed out the Magpies who used to rule the woods.
In nature there are no rewards or punishments: there are consequences.
Like many Corvids Jays are social birds, however I would think 30 is a unusually high gathering.
I remember, maybe 10 years ago, seeing 14.

The woodland on my patch is split into two sections with a gang of about a dozen Jays in each bit. When i first started shooting there it was all magpies and to see/hear a Jay was a rare treat. Now i rarely see a Pica pica at all. Ive got a theory that the Jays got smart and started robbing the Pica nests
