Couldn't you just tie some paracord around the webbing and leave a few inches dangling. Would this have the same effect and be cheaper than four carabiners?

Hi Darktide, good question, but the answer is no it wouldn't work in the same way. The problem is Capillary action where the cord actually transmits water along it's length through the weave. Yes if the downpour is massive and it's running down the sides of a tree it will deflect a certain amount, but more will still travel down the sashes to the hammock.

Another option is attaching one and a quarter inch steel harness rings using a tape knot and pre gathering the sashes at the hammock, it is considerably cheaper as well and it works well enough on my hammock.
