    "hello the camp"

"Hello the camp", is said to be a phrase used by many a mountain man, woodsman, frontiersman, explorer and western scout in days gone by. It was used to announce themselves before approaching or entering a camp area. This was done to let those in the camp know they had visitors who had "friendly" intentions. Those entering unannounced in such a fashion ran the risk of being looked upon as hostile and immediately treated as a trespasser.

That being said, "Hello the camp". I am relatively new to this forum but look forward to getting familiar with as many of you as I can, and learning and sharing with like minded folks.

I'm from Utah in the USA. I grew up in the great outdoors learning to hunt, fish, ride horse and camp at a very young age. This quote from the late great Steve McQueen sums it up best for me. ""Id rather wake up in the middle of nowhere, than in any city on earth" -Steve Mcqueen"

Hi Utahbushwhacker a very warm welcome to the NaturalBushcraft forum. We have a similar call on Natural Bushcraft meets of 'Yo Bears...' but I prefer 'Hello the Camp'.

Hey Utah, hello from New York! (Syracuse, not downstate where all the crazies are...)

We still use, "Hello, the camp!" up here, at least amongst my friends. We also say, "Hey bear!" when hiking through berry patches in the middle of summer in the Adirondack mountains.

Welcome to the forum, it's a good bunch on here from all over the natural world.

Every mile on a river takes you further from home than every hundred miles on a road.
