    ID of this mushroom

I'm thinking this is an Agaricus but am always wary.

Can anyone shed some light on this please?

    Cheers

From what I can see I would agree with you, however it would be good to see a cross section to see what the gill characteristics are and also it would be worth doing a spore print to see the colour.

Hi Geoff, could you give us some more info as to how you came to that conclusion please as I would have been caught out by that one.

    Thanks Ben

Combination of the size and the streaky silvery pattern on the cap. Although it is the smell that gives this one away for certain, as well as yellow staining in the stem base. You need a decent book!

Thanks Geoff. The two books I have are the Collins Gem one and a Roger Phillips one. If your offering a discount to forum members I'm sure you'd get a lot of interest!!

I can't undercut Amazon I'm afraid. Not when they are discounting my book by 32%. Although I just checked and it seems Amazon have run out of copies! Wordery and BookDepository have still got some for £16.

I can do signed copies for the RRP of £20, P&P free.
